About

Track Record of Spotting & Scaling Winners: joined Faculty in 2019 when it was a 50-person startup. Helped shape the strategy that turned Faculty into a British AI unicorn. A ~20× revenue exit multiple for Faculty is proof of pattern-recognition in action and driving commercial growth that investors value.

Commercial and Strategic Leadership: I specialise in strategic innovation - the go-to-market strategy, revenue growth, and deal-making. My strengths lie in big-picture thinking, ideation, and disruption. In practical terms this means shaping a startup’s North Star vision, business model, and value proposition to make it attractive for scale and investment.

Connector of Capital and Ideas: I operate at the intersection of investors and innovators - bridging founders who have bold ideas with the funding and partnerships that they need. This involves venture scouting (scanning the market for promising startups and trends) as well as fundraising support (helping startups craft their story, strategy, and financials to secure capital). I understand what both sides need to succeed.

Pattern Recognition & Innovation Insight: I love working across industries which is a skill sharpened by years of strategic work and by the way my mind functions - scanning the environment, making quick connections, and thinking creatively. This is useful for spotting entrepreneurial opportunities. I thrive on ideas and disruption, identifying emerging trends or business models that can be game-changers. This means that I can articulate to investors why a particular startup is the right bet in context of market trends, and help founders tweak their strategy for sustainable growth. My ability to rapidly absorb information and pivot focus is an asset: it enables me to evaluate lots of opportunities (deals, innovations) and filter the signal from the noise.

Financial Acumen and Credibility: To complement my innovation experience, I have invested in formal finance know-how (e.g. completing an 8-week CFA course). I speak investor language in terms of valuation, multiples, and investment structuring. It also helps in guiding founders on financial planning and demonstrating diligence.

Project Themes

I help investors and leadership teams uncover the hidden drivers of growth, performance and competitive advantage inside organisations.

My work combines strategic thinking, organisational analysis and pattern recognition to help firms:

  • Identify opportunities others miss

  • Understand how organisations really function beneath reporting lines and metrics

  • Assess leadership teams, talent dynamics and innovation capacity

  • Turn complex or stalled situations into clearer strategic direction

  • Develop new growth propositions and future-facing business models

  • Reorganise teams and structures to unlock better performance and innovation

For private equity and leadership teams, this means improving the ability to:

  • Spot asymmetric opportunities

  • Evaluate human capital as a source of value creation

  • Increase innovation capacity inside portfolio companies

  • Build organisations that adapt faster than competitors

  • Make better decisions under complexity and uncertainty

Underlying all of this is a belief that long-term value creation increasingly comes from understanding people, organisational behaviour and strategic patterns better than the market.

Andy (Ländle) Grimm (CDO, Holtzbrinck)

“I had the pleasure of working closely with Calum, and I can say without hesitation: he's both an exceptional professional and someone you actually look forward to seeing on the calendar. His knowledge of AI runs deep, and he brings sharp strategic thinking to every conversation, whether shaping long-term AI direction or making quick calls in a fast-moving environment where the ground shifts weekly. He's the kind of colleague who makes complex problems feel solvable. I'd jump at the chance to work with him again.“

Philipp M. Nastaly (CEO, CHAPTR)

“I worked with Calum at CHAPTR, where he supported our strategy efforts. His real strength is commercial. He cuts to the critical question quickly, structures the problem cleanly, and frames the answer into a narrative that moves decisions forward. He's a commercial thinker first, always focused on what serves the business, and brings the kind of intellectual curiosity and energy that makes hard work feel productive. Highly recommended for any team that needs sharp strategic thinking with a clear commercial lens.“
